Job Opening: Membership and Events Manager

ABOUT THE MILL
The Mill (www.dimensionmill.org) is Bloomington’s center of gravity for innovators, remote workers, entrepreneurs, and creators. We renovated a 103-year-old building from the Showers Brothers Furniture Company and transformed it into a 19,000 square-foot coworking space and business incubator. You’ll be working in a stunning building with exposed brick and original wood, that seamlessly blends old and new, at the heart of the technology and innovation community.

Already a major driver of innovation in our community, The Mill is home to 15 companies and 150 members. They’re part of the infrastructure we’re building for the 21st century – talent, capital, and training – to help our City and State evolve in the new economy. Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, our mission is to launch and accelerate high-potential companies, and our vision is to become the center of coworking and entrepreneurship in Indiana.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are adding a full-time Memberships and Events Manager. This position will be responsible for 1) adding and retaining members and 2) marketing and booking our event space.

Memberships: Members purchase month-to-month passes that give them access to a workspace, our amenities, and our community. You’ll add members who are startups, freelancers, and remote workers. The Mill features two coworking spaces with designated desks and hot desks, two furnished lounges, a high-end kitchenette with seating area, a mothers’ room, podcast studio, three call rooms, and three conference rooms.

Events: Members and the general public can rent our modern/industrial two-story event space and our 30-seat classroom. The former is perfect for receptions, weddings, formals, and speakers. The latter is perfect for half- or full-day strategy sessions, board meetings, classes, and speakers. Both feature 103-year-old exposed brick and original wood. You’ll market and show the spaces and act as the point-person for booked events.

Depending on the week, an approximate weight of the role might be:

Memberships 40-50%

Events 40-50%

Jack-of-all-trades, master of them too 10-20%*

*The Mill is still new and we don’t know what we don’t know. You should be eager and willing to tackle new experiences and situations, and you’ll need to execute against them flawlessly.

Annual salary begins at $36,000 and is commensurate with experience.

SOME THINGS YOU MIGHT DO TO SUPPORT MEMBERSHIPS AND EVENTS INCLUDE, BUT AREN’T LIMITED TO:

  • Giving tours to potential members
  • Sending proposals for the for-rent event spaces
  • Coordinating members-only events
  • Writing website copy for specific audiences
  • Developing new membership plans
  • Opening/closing the building
  • Buying supplies
  • Selling corporate memberships
  • Facilitating Design + Donuts monthly meetup
  • Using in Proximity Space to manage reservations and invoices
  • Making morning coffee
  • Diplomatically enforcing member rules

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?

As a top performer in this role, you can make yourself useful to members and guests without instruction or structure. You’re social and like being around people but still get your work done. You like building systems and making checklists. You may have a retail sales or hospitality background, though they’re not necessary nor required. You are self-starting and comfortable in ambiguity. You are KPI driven but have good intuition for making decisions based on instinct.
