Now Hiring: Head of Initiatives and Partnerships

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?

As a top performer in this role, you are resourceful and analytical and have a record of successfully managing large-scale projects and building partnerships. You may have an economic development background, though it’s not necessary nor a requirement. You are self-starting and comfortable in ambiguity. You are KPI driven but have good intuition for making decisions based on instinct.

ABOUT THE MILL

The Mill is Bloomington’s center of gravity for innovators, remote workers, entrepreneurs, and creators. We renovated a 103-year-old building from the Showers Brothers Furniture Company and transformed it into a 19,000 square-foot coworking space and business incubator. You’ll be working in a stunning building with exposed brick and original hardwood, that seamlessly blends old and new, at the heart of the technology and innovation. This is an amazing community to inhabit and curate.

Already a major driver of innovation in our community, The Mill is home to 20 companies and 225 members. They’re helping us build the infrastructure for the 21st century – talent, capital, and training – to help our City and State evolve for the new economy. Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, our mission is to launch and accelerate high-potential companies, and our vision is to become the center of coworking and entrepreneurship in Indiana.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are adding a Head of Initiatives and Partnerships to our team. This person will be responsible for increasing our organization’s bandwidth for working on high-impact projects. Your role will be strategy-oriented, execution-heavy, and focus on helping us achieve our mission and vision faster and more effectively.

You’ll do that via initiatives. An example is identifying high-potential founders and high-potential startups at universities throughout Indiana. If you launched a startup in college and you want to move to the coast, there’s nothing we can do to retain you. (But hopefully you’ll come back in a few years.) But if you want to stay in Indiana, Bloomington is an aspirational place to live. We want to find folks who will benefit from being located in Bloomington to accelerate their businesses.

You’ll also do that via partnerships. An example is restarting the BEST competition at IU. It ended a few years ago right as we were honing the formula (our Executive Director is an investor). There is some desire there to restart it, and we need somebody who has the time to navigate IU, can focus on the right types of startups, and create a landing pad for them after they graduate.

Finally, you’ll help the Executive Director and the Membership and Events Manager with their major projects, which include but are not limited to Crossroads, corporate memberships, and fundraising.

Annual salary begins at $50,000 and is commensurate with experience.
